Good afternoon everyone! I hope you’re doing well. These past couple of weeks I’ve been adjusting to moving back to uni and moving to online classes, I wanted to put out more posts but time felt limited!
Have you ever felt that you want to spend more time praying or reading the Bible but that you just don’t have enough time! That you are so busy that by the time you sit down, you’re exhausted and you’ve not read your Bible in a couple of days now. The cycle continues.
If so, you’re not alone. In fact I think that the problem is, we’re constantly surrounded by stuff to do. And it doesn’t help now we’re working from home, trying to relax at home, then doing your usual routine and everything can feel overwhelming, you just find yourself forgetting to pray, because you’ve been so busy.
Perhaps it’s even church things that keep you occupied, running bible studies, organising services, checking up on saints! It sounds good, but you’re becoming so busy with the work of God you’re forgetting to spend time with God.
I’m gonna take you to the story of Mary and Martha.
“Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.””
Luke 10:38-42 NKJV

Other versions say that Martha was distracted with the preparations, and looking at her, I think I can see a bit of Martha in myself too! She just wanted things done and prepared well, and trying to sort things out, but feeling like you’re on your own! But Jesus told her she’s surfing about many things! Have you ever been worried about many things( I think that’s me… all the time. The serving and preparations would still be there; but taking a little time to spend with Jesus, at His feet learning from Him! That wasn’t always going to be there. The opportunity to spend time was there, but she could’ve missed the word Jesus had for her right then and there because she was focused on everything else.
God wants us to put Him first. Now that doesn’t mean neglect your job, family and responsibilities! But don’t put them above God. Don’t put God as a last resort, but make Him a part of your daily routine. If it means waking up earlier to pray , then do it!
We can even fall into the trap of being busy with church stuff, and thinking that’s better ! But honestly the thing that God wants above all is a relationship with Him first!
so make the conscious decision today, don’t be too busy to spend time with God! Make time! Make room! Even if it means moving things around. Even if it means just prioritising Bible over Netflix (this is triggering me also!😂).
Thank you for reading & I hope this helps!
How do you make sure you’re spending time with God even if your day is busy?
