Good afternoon fam!
So today, I would say I’m turning from the idea of mixing self-help, in the sense of self reliance with my faith. That’s not saying that there’s not gonna be times when you need to be the one to encourage yourself, and push yourself to keep going because you’re not always going to have someone to do that job for you. However, what I am saying is that we were never meant to do it alone. You were never created to have to carry all your burdens and carry all your worries and pain in your heart. That’s what Jesus died for, he carried your pain and your burdens so that you wouldn’t have to!
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.””
Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV
It’s as simple as that, but I think sometimes the reason we get so weary sometimes, and are dragging around so many burdens and heaviness is because we’re so tired from fighting on our own, when in reality we were never meant to do it! When God created Adam, God created the garden for Adam to tend, and provided for Adam and you know what the first thing God said wasn’t good? “And the LORD God said, “ It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.””
Genesis 2:18 NKJV and God made him a helper, comparable.
When Jesus , who was God himself, came into this earth, he could’ve done the work all on His own, but not only did he have disciples, but He would regularly go and pray: “So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.”
Luke 5:16 NKJV
“I look up to the mountains and hills, longing for God’s help. But then I realize that our true help and protection come only from the Lord, our Creator who made the heavens and the earth. He will guard and guide me, never letting me stumble or fall. God is my keeper; he will never forget nor ignore me. He will never slumber nor sleep; he is the Guardian-God for his people, Israel. Jehovah himself will watch over you; he’s always at your side to shelter you safely in his presence. He’s protecting you from all danger both day and night. He will keep you from every form of evil or calamity as he continually watches over you. You will be guarded by God himself. You will be safe when you leave your home and safely you will return. He will protect you now, and he’ll protect you forevermore!”
Psalms 121:1-8 TPT
Psalms 121 , I inserted all of it, just to remind us, that if we could sustain ourselves fully, we would. If we could be our only source of help, then we would have done. But time and time again we come up to a dead end.
How does God help us? The beautiful thing is that He can help us through other people. He can help us through reminding us of scripture. He has already helped us with the Holy Spirit. He can help us through giving us strength to endure what we’re going through or providing a way out. But the main thing is, we were never meant to do it alone, so why do we try to continuously do it alone?
There’s a cute video from the pursuit of happiness, I’ll insert it here: Pursuit of Happyness – Boat joke for those who are unable to watch the video here is the joke/story:
A man was drowning in the river. A boat comes along and the captain yells at the man “Do you need some help??”
“No thanks” came the reply “God will save me” and off the ship sails. A 2nd boat comes along “Do you need some help??” yelled the captain. “No thanks” came the reply “God will save me” and off the ship sails.
Eventually the man drowns and God is there waiting for him in heaven. “How come you didnt save me” the man asks God. And God says “What are you talking about, i sent you 2 big boats you dummy”
We don’t know the way that God will help you, sometimes it may just be to strengthen you, however the main thing is, but you were never meant to do it alone and have to sort everything out for yourself. We are trying to live up to the standard of “I don’t need anybody else but me”. When in reality, God is there.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.”
Proverbs 3:5-8 NKJV
So, as I round up. Please don’t go round thinking that you’ve got to do all this, and carry everything on your own. Because it was never the intention or the will of God. You can do all things, through Christ who strengthens you. You will do all things, but through Christ, why, because He gives you strength. This might mean strength spiritually, physically , emotionally, mentally. But you will do through Him!
Here’s a link for further scriptures, which show God our strength and the one we turn to and rely on God’s sustaining power and here’s a precious post I wrote about leaning not on our own understanding but on God – Lean.
God bless you! And I pray you have been helped by this.
