God puts you through a process so that you can achieve your purpose!

It’s one of those things that you realise after something happened and you look at your life retrospectively as you wonder why God allows things to occur. Me becoming a chairperson in my region was that watershed moment for me.

Leading is something I have been doing in my life ever since junior school and it has progressed as I have grown up. Whether it was being a student representative, taking on the role of a mentor to people younger than me, taking the lead on projects or simply being available to lead when no one else would, even giving advice to people or acting as a solutionist to others’ problems. The irony of it all was that it’s only in the past year that I came to the realisation that being a leader is something God has put inside of me.

Don’t get me wrong, I was aware that I have a leader mentality in some way but what hindered me was my lack of appreciation for this quality I possessed. All these things on a micro perspective seemed like little things that I did here and there but this process I went through whereby I was given responsibility, where I had to be supportive, where I had to lead by example have now contributed to what God has planned for me.

When I was going off to uni I was a chairperson at my assembly back home and I told myself that when I go to my new assembly I’m just gonna be an ordinary guy, I’m just gonna come to church, play an instrument, listen to the word and leave. I wanted to blend in and just do ordinary things I was so adamant on the idea of being the quiet guy in the corner but God had other things in mind.

3 months into moving to uni I was now made chairman of my assembly, a couple of months ago I was made regional chairman. I did not intend to go for these roles as I wanted to be quiet, I didn’t want to lead but it was at that moment I realised if God wants you to be a certain way or he wants you to do something, he will make sure that you do just that. I thought i could run away from being a leader and it was quite the contrary.

In all our lives we have been put through a process and we are still going through a process so that we can do exactly what God has purposed us to do. When you know what your purpose is , embrace it. Let God work within you, let him put you through what is necessary for you to be at the stage you need to be because there is nothing more fulfilling than doing something God called you to do
