Good evening everyone, I hope you’re doing okay and are staying safe.
I just wanted to talk about hope.
Yesterday I was having a conversation with someone after watching a video, where they talked about how as black people, there’s not that many of us, in America they make up 13% of the population and in the UK 3%, and things will never change, they are the way they are and we can’t change it, so whats the point in trying.
This morning I woke up and I felt hopeless. I said God, maybe this is right, what is the point because we can’t change the system, we can’t change every person. What’s the point in fighting?
Until something came to me, a thought and I was reminded that, it takes one person to make a change. And that one person can just help change the opinion and mindset of another person. And another person can be helped and another.
We fight, not because we’re guaranteed change today tomorrow or even the day after that. But we fight because we have hope that one day things will get better. We fight to know that yes we might not be able to change everybody, but when I share a post or a story, or what’s going on, even one person can look at themselves and say “wow, maybe I had prejudice views, wow, maybe I can change in this aspect”. And that one person can be a catalyst of change, for their family , and for their children and can help the generation to come.
I was looking at Dr Martin Luther King Jr’s speech again and one part of his speech stood out to me a lot this time through different eyes.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Martin Luther King, Jr.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Martin Luther King, Jr.
He has a dream for his children to have a better life, for no judgement. He had hope for the future. That’s not to say he didn’t have hope for then and there, but he also had hope for the future.
So, the reason why I’m saying this, is that to know that keep on hoping, don’t stop. DO NOT STOP! Why, because you sharing and you speaking out might not change the entire government in one day, but you could impact one life, which could impact another and another. The butterfly effect.
Just because the odds are stacked up against us, doesn’t mean we stop fighting. Just because things look like they aren’t going to change now, doesn’t mean we stop.
A change will come. And change is already happening, the fact that so many people of different colours and races are standing together and are now beginning outrage with us, it’s something. Yes, we know that there is still SO much to do, and there is still so far to go, but we have to keep hope. We have to keep hope.
“And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
I Corinthians 13:13 NKJV
Also, I just want to say, in this time love more than ever. It’s a lot going on, and times like this people can be affected emotionally, spiritually, they may be fearful, downcast , confused or just so many different emotions. Love one another. Care for one another. Jesus told us that loving God and loving your neighbour as yourself is the fulfilment of the commandments. Love is the key, and what this world needs right now.
So, abide, Faith hope and love, especially love.
I’m just gonna leave your with a couple of pictures of quotes, that have been helpful to me.
I pray you stay safe and well
~ peace, joy HOPE and love x
